![]() | MEMBER PROFILE - MARK ENRIGHTGeneral Manager, People and Capability, Harwood Andrews / Sladen Legal. Board Member, HR Minds HRMinds Board Member since 2021How did you get into HR?I completed a Bachelor of Business at the University of Ballarat (now Federation University) in 2003, followed by an honours year specialising in Human Resources. I began my HR career in recruitment, progressing into training and development before moving into generalist HR roles. Did you start your HR career in the legal INDUSTRY, or move into it from another industry?I began my HR career in professional services, later working in the engineering and health sectors before moving into the legal industry, where I have spent the past eight years. The transition into legal was both engaging and rewarding, allowing me to apply the broad skill set I developed across other industries while gaining insight into the unique challenges faced by legal organisations.A career lesson that you’ll never forget? An important lesson I learned early in my career was to always make the time to sense-check information and investigate further when something doesn't seem quite right. On many occasions, this approach has helped me identify errors or inconsistencies and ultimately avoid costly business mistakes. What advice would you give to an HR professional starting their career? My advice is to stay curious, continue building your knowledge and develop strong commercial awareness of the business you support. Form genuine relationships, ask thoughtful questions, and take the time to sense-check information to strengthen your judgement. Above all, protect your integrity, remain adaptable, and seek out mentors who can guide your growth. What do you see as the biggest emerging issue for HR practitioners in law firms?AI will be a significant disruptor in the legal sector and should be embraced as an integral part of the future of work.Who do you follow for inspiration?Jordan Peterson, Jack Welsh, Sheryl Sandberg, Bill Bryson, Patrick Bet-David, Mo Gawat, Simon Sinek, Jacinta Ardern. How do you balance work and life?I play the bass guitar in a rock 'n' roll band, which allows me to switch off, focus on music, and supports my overall mental health and wellbeing.
